"Healthy Children are Better Learners"
Aug. 23, 2011

The community came together Tuesday, August 23 at Loudon High School to celebrate the official opening of the new Track and Fitness Course. Superintendent Jason Vance, Principal Cheri Parrish, School Health Coordinator Lois Snow and distinguished guests from the School Board and Community joined in the ribbon cutting festivities. The track was built under the direction of the Office of Coordinated School Health of Loudon County Schools, and was made possible with funds under an agreement with the State of Tennessee Department of Health, Project Diabetes, and funds from the Loudon County Board of Education. The fitness equipment was funded by a grant from the Carol M. White Physical Education Program. Many community partners, school system staff, parents and students have contributed time, talent and resources to this project so that Loudon families have an opportunity to be more active, physically fit, and healthy.
Student Dress and Appearance
Manner of dress and appearance should ensure that the environment in class is conducive to effective learning. Distracting apparel of appearance must be avoided. Any student failing to dress appropriately for school will be required to call a parent to bring appropriate clothing to school, wear clothing the office may have, assigned In School Suspension for that day, or will be sent home. The following guidelines will be used in determining appropriate dress:
1) All students must wear shoes. No house shoes allowed.
2) The top wearing apparel (shirt, blouse, etc.) must meet or overlap the bottom apparel. At least one shirt must be tucked in at all times. Shirt/t-shirts cannot have any offensive writing or pictures on them. No cleavage should be visible. All shirts must have a sleeve on them. Students may not wear anything that promotes drugs, alcohol or tobacco.
3) Hat*, sunglasses**, helmets, etc. are not to be worn in the building at anytime.
4) Clothing which is too revealing by being too tight, short or see through; or skirts/pants/shorts having rips, tears, holes, writing or painting on them is NOT allowed.
5) Clothing or jewelry which promotes the use of alcohol, tobacco, or drugs; displays obscenity, vulgarity, shows harming, maiming, or killing others; makes sexual references; implies hatred or racial prejudice; or gang implications (which shall include tattoos) is not acceptable for school.
6) Sagging of pants/shorts is not allowed. Pants must be of appropriate length and not dragging the ground. Pants/shorts must not be overly baggy as to be able to hide a weapon.
7) Dog collars, chains, safety pins on clothing, etc. are prohibited. This includes chains on wallets.
8) Trench/long coats are not to be worn in the school building during school, unless heating problems arise.
9) The wearing of jewelry in pierced locations other than the ears is prohibited. An inconspicuous nose stud may be worn at the discretion of the administration. Any facial piercings must have a clear stud. All students without clear studs will be sent to the nurse’s office to change and be assigned a fee for the stud. No exceptions.
10) Colors of hair that do not occur naturally are prohibited (green, purple, pink, blue, etc.).
11) Undergarments are required. No clothing that reveals undergarments is allowed.
12) Shorts and skirts length must be approaching the knees.
13) NO GANG RELATED attire (to include bandanas), nor any tattoos related to gangs as determined by the administration. Tattoos will be required to be covered with clothing or a bandaid at all times during school and at school related events.
